The 2026 Coppa Italia Frecciarossa Final achieves unprecedented success in the digitalization of access to major sporting events

More than 68,000 fans entered the stadium using only their smartphones through NFC technology, thanks to this initiative led by Vivaticket and Lega Calcio Serie A.

Bologna, May 19, 2026. The Coppa Italia Frecciarossa Final 2025/26, held on May 13 at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome between Lazio and Inter, marked a major milestone for the entire European sports industry.

For the first time in Italy, access to a major football event was managed exclusively through an NFC-based access system, without the need for QR codes or physical tickets. This significantly improved flow and security at stadium entry points, while also contributing to the fight against ticket resale fraud.

Thanks to the collaboration between Lega Calcio Serie A and Vivaticket, through its TicketHub platform, the smartphone became the only key required to access the stadium.

In total, more than 68,000 people entered the venue using only their smartphones, with a download rate exceeding 97%. Each ticket was opened an average of 3.3 times: upon receipt, before the event, and at stadium entry. These figures reflect the strong acceptance of the system and the growing ease with which fans now use digital wallets as part of their matchday experience.

The 2026 Coppa Italia Final is a clear example of how technology can transform the fan experience at major events. The success of this first Coppa Italia Frecciarossa Final in Italy with NFC-based access represents a major step forward for the industry, enabling faster, more secure, and fully digital entry processes, and we are extremely proud that Vivaticket played a key role in making this possible for the first time in Italy.

I would like to thank the Lega Calcio Serie A for the trust placed in Vivaticket to bring this project to life. This milestone reflects Vivaticket’s long-term commitment to digitalization, as part of the ongoing evolution of digital ticketing, wich represents the future of ticket distribution.
Silvano Taiani, CEO of Vivaticket

Meanwhile, Luciano Grecucci, Chief Sales Officer – Italy at Vivaticket, added:

The NFC revolution at the Coppa Italia Final is not just about technology, but about teamwork. Thanks to the Vivaticket team for their great commitment, and to all those who made this possible: Lega Calcio Serie A for perfect synergy, and Zucchetti for the seamless integration at the entry gates. Proud of this achievement!

The TicketHub project by Vivaticket is based on next generation technology, which has enabled the system to scale capacity and ensure uninterrupted service, even during peak demand.

In addition, the use of NFC based access allowed real time monitoring of fan activity, identifying peak interaction moments with the platform and providing valuable insights for future events.

Users from more than 20 countries, including the United States, Switzerland, and Germany, used the platform, highlighting its international reach and its position as a benchmark solution for high-end sports tourism.

Overall, the success of the 2026 Coppa Italia Frecciarossa Final represents not only a technological achievement, but also an improvement in user experience, operational efficiency, and access security.
